Sarah Marino is a nature photographer, photography educator, and writer based in southwestern Colorado. In addition to photographing grand landscapes, Sarah is best known for her photographs of smaller subjects including intimate landscapes, abstract renditions of natural subjects, and creative portraits of plants and trees.
Sarah is the author or co-author of a diverse range of educational resources for nature photographers on subjects including composition, photographing nature’s small scenes, and black and white photography.
Sarah, a co-founder of the Nature First Alliance for Responsible Nature Photography, also seeks to promote the responsible stewardship of natural and wild places through her photography and teaching.
Sarah is the recipient of NANPA’s 2025 Trailblazer award.

Nature photography is an increasingly competitive field, especially for anyone who chooses to pursue it as a profession.
During this session, Sarah Marino will share her advice for how to stand out as a nature photographer, business owner, and teacher. Informed by her work as a mentor, creative coach, and leader of multiple peer networks, Sarah will cover topics including developing a reputation based in authenticity, the benefits of taking the unconventional approach, investing time in cultivating original ideas, and developing connections with like-minded people.
With a mix of inspiration and practical advice, you will leave this session with fresh ideas about how to invigorate your career as a nature photographer.
