Session Information

Working with Scientists

Saturday, May 17 / 8:30am – 9:45am / Breakout Room – TBA

This session delves into collaborating with scientists to craft compelling visual stories about environmental issues. Drawing from my own experiences, I’ll guide you through the process: contacting researchers, planning a story, conducting a shoot, writing, and publishing. I’ll also share practical tips for doing science photojournalism on a budget, including affordable strategies for travel.

As both a professional scientist and nature photojournalist, my work bridges academia and popular science. Through my connections with researchers, I’ve joined expeditions in North America, Jamaica, Hawaii, Mexico, and beyond to document science stories and bring them to wider audiences.
