Brenda is a professional photographer and educator with a life-long wanderlust for exploring and photographing.

She began her career in photography in 1985. Her photographs have appeared on the pages of Sierra Club Magazine and Calendar, Audubon, National Geographic Books, Michelin Travel Guides, Nature Conservancy, Traveler, and many more.

She has received high commendations for her work in Wildlife Photographer of the Year and Expressions Magazine Photo Competition (NANPA). Brenda is the author/photographer of two books, her most recent Expressive Nature Photography (Monacelli Press), and she co-authored Extraordinary Everyday Photography (Penguin-Random House) with Jed Manwaring.

For three years, she was a judge for the USA Landscape Photographer of the Year competition, hosted by renowned English photographer Charlie Waite. Brenda loves to share this passion for photograph with others, and teaches workshops and leads photo tours internationally.

Creating Expressive Nature Photographs

Super Session – Wednesday, May 14 / 1:00pm – 4:00pm / Indigo
ADVANCED REGISTRATION REQUIRED

Good photography is a marriage of craft and vision. In this presentation, Brenda will discuss the vision part of the equation, with topics including seeing vs. looking, and also how light, applying advanced composition concepts, visual design, color, black and white, gesture, mood and motion can create expressive nature photographs. She will also include a section on impressionistic and abstract photography.

Field Trip: Tucson Botanical Gardens

Saturday, May 17 / 8:30am – 11:00am / Meet in Lobby Foyer

Please join me in photographing at the Tucson Botanical Gardens where you will find a large variety of desert cacti, wildflowers, iris gardens, a butterfly garden, an herb garden and more. There is a wonderful display of orchids that is within the butterfly enclosure featuring butterflies from around the world.  Also, visiting the garden throughout the year are many varieties of both lizards and birds.  Birds commonly seen in the garden include quail, cardinals, doves, hawks and hummingbirds. In addition, there are several small art galleries and other special exhibits.
